Job Snapshot

Job Description

WaterAid has worked in Colombia since January 2016, merging with local NGO Aguayuda (founded 2005). Focusing first on indigenous groups in the northeast Department of La Guajira, WaterAid builds upon Aguayuda's experience of working with local communities and service providers to make clean water a normal part of daily life for the poorest, most marginalized people.

WaterAid's overarching aim is to strengthen the WASH sector in Colombia by creating implementation models for rural WASH policy that can be replicated elsewhere in the country and by example, across the region. This will help to bridge the current gap between rural and urban policy implementation and will make access to WASH more equal and sustainable.

Our work has taken on both greater relevancy and renewed urgency in light of the COVID-19 pandemic and in light of climate change. The path toward SDG 6 is steeper than originally perceived; we must rapidly mobilize resources the world over to achieve our shared vision.

WaterAid is looking for a Country Director to play a vital role in our mission to make clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene normal for everyone, everywhere by 2030.

Working within the Colombia Country Program, the Country Director will:

  • Provide visionary and strategic leadership to the country team promoting a management culture that is empowering and collaborative.
  • Build, lead and manage high performing and diverse teams by creating an environment that enables staff to maximize their full potential, facilitates high performance and ensures accountability.
  • Ensure the successful, on-time delivery of all multi-year and yearly plans and budgets. Provide quality assurance in terms of delivery of plans, capacity development, program innovation, quality and sustainability, monitoring and evaluation.
  • Represent WaterAid externally, ensuring that WaterAid's vision, mission, values and aims are communicated in a compelling and consistent manner.
  • Understand and proactively position WaterAid within the local and global funding context and identify appropriate funding opportunities to increase income.

To be successful, you will need:

  • Proven track record and extensive experience working at a senior level with strategic leadership, people management and financial accountabilities.
  • A degree or post-graduate qualification in relevant field of study is desirable as is prior experience serving as leader of a Country Program in an international development organization.
  • Track record of leading, managing and building a diverse, multi-disciplinary, and high-performing team of professionals, preferably in the development sector.
  • Track record of developing strategic and operational partnerships at different levels of government, donors and NGO's for program delivery, policy, influencing and funding.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; high level of fluency and comfortable making presentations in Spanish and English.
